DENIA
De nia offers visitors a feel of a Spanish working town, but with all the luxuries of shops, bars, restaurants, port and beach life. It is located approx 85 km north east of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. Denia has many fine sandy beaches, the beaches stretch for 20 km so there is enough beach for it not to get too overcrowded. There are a variety of watersports available. From Denia port ferries run regularly to Ibiza and Majorca, and you can also take a boat trip around the coast to Javea, Altea and Benidorm. The many fine sightseeing opportunities in this area include the Castle which was built in the 11th and 12th century and offers fantastic views of sea, town and Montgo mountain. If you are in Denia during one of the fiestas it is a fantastic family party atmosphere and usually a lot of fireworks to see! For the shoppers an outdoor market is held on a Monday morning at Plaza Jaime, here you will find many bargains including leather bags, shoes and sunglasses.
For the golfers there are plenty of fine courses including La Sella and Oliva Nova.
J ALON
The Jalon Valley is a 25 minute picturesque drive inland from the coastal towns of Denia, Javea and Moraira, but with a country feel. The Jalon Valley has some of the best scenery in Spain and is a walkers paradise. In late January and early February the whole of the Jalon Valley is covered with pink and white almond blossom which looks beautiful and is a great time to visit it. Strolling through the village of Jalon which is set at the bottom of the Jalon Valley you will find shops, bars, restaurants and bodegas (wine cellars) where you an sample the different and local wines before buying. There is an open market held on Tuesday mornings at the old square.
JAVEA
Javea is split into three distinct areas. There is the Old Town of Javea with its original narrow streets and town houses, the port where you can sit and watch the boats come in and out and sample the fresh seafood and many lovely restaurants, and the beach (Arunel) which is surrounded by bars and restaurants where you can try the local paella, tapas or good old Fish and chips or English breakfasts! Javea is very much a place where you can feel you are in Spain but can also feel reminders of home.
